*NSYNC can heal you—literally.
If you’re in your mid-thirties with an Instagram account, you’ve probably felt the disturbance in the force last week caused by a single video.
JT, JC, Joey, Lance & Chris....TOGETHER.
ARE THEY BACK???
Stressed out millennials, now with kids, mortgages and back pain, turned the internet upside down DESPERATE for clues as to how they could throw their entire paycheck at the opportunity to relive their youth for one night at a *NSYNC reunion tour.
Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
But it's more than just fun.
The music you listened to while coming of age, notes written in old yearbooks, the smell of your high school crush's Bath & Body Work’s cucumber melon hand cream can transport you unlike anything else.
And it can literally make your mind and body behave younger.
You heard me.
In the now-famous Clockwork study done by Harvard researcher Ellen Langer, she took a group of older men to a retreat center for 5 days and asked them to live as if they were actually living 20 years back in time. She gave them old newspapers, they discussed past "current events" and listened to their favorite old music.
And at the end of the 5 days, the men walked away (literally) transformed.
Vision, joint flexibility, IQ, gait, posture, hearing, memory and grip strength improved, there were decreases in arthritis symptoms and photos of participants were rated as appearing significantly younger than before.
All of this just from using their minds to revisit their younger selves.
This follows-up on the mindset intervention study I shared last week, where researchers were able to reduce participants' cortisol levels, improve cardiovascular response to stress and reduce anxiety during the COVID lockdowns with one 30-minute mindset intervention.
So think about your current day-to-day.
How much of what you think and the content you consume is truly fueling your physical and psychological wellbeing?
Does it make you feel younger?
Even after reading the research, does part of you still not believe that you personally have any control over your physical health?
That too, is a mindset.
So if you're in need of something to snap you out of your funk, I recommend you put on your Claire's choker, grab an Orange Julius and have your parents drop you off a that *NSYNC reunion concert.
And maybe, just maybe your back pain might improve.
My name is Kevin and I want to help you live an intentional, resilient life.
